Michael Fitzmaurice, new Independent TD for
Roscommon-South Leitrim, plans to run 25
candidates nationwide. Mr Fitzmaurice said his
group will not be left or right wing but rather
“straight down the middle”.
His party will not operate under a whip
system and will disregard traditional political
ideologies in favour of a new way of doing
politics. He is open to discussions with TDs,
Senators and Councillors across the political
divide as long as they sign up to his vision of
“real change”.
“There are some TDs I would be looking
at, who, in my opinion, would be pretty
competent”, he has said. He has been
mentoring community activists in Mayo.
Mr Fitzmaurice stands for nothing and will grow
tiring, fast. He would be a distraction to the
Left, though the Right is welcome to him.
There is no straight down the middle.
